Sven Otto Hammarback was born August 9, 1842; in Gosborn Socken (parish) Varmland. The archives for such a place would be in Filipstad, or in the archives in Goteborg (info from consulate). His parents moved there from Ludvika Dalarna about three of four years prior (1836-37). His mother's name was Catherina Bergeson and her mother's name was Bullock. August Hagberg of Eks Harad, Varmland, (a second cousin of Otto Hammarback) traced his branch of the family back to Italic-Teutonic-Celtic people; called Walloons, who lived in the southeast part of Belgium. During the period of 1643-50 a great number of these Walloons emigrated to middle Sweden because of religious persecution. The church at Gosborn was built in 1600. Raged by fire cir. 1930-31. Contents of archives said to be saved. Otto served as a master mechanic at Hagfors, iron and steel workshop. He often worked on inticrate parts of machinery sent to USA. He repaired steamer engines and often took steamers on trial runs in absence of the captain. Following are ships he "ran": 1) "Bylgia" over Klars elva (Cliar River) 2) "Munkfors" to Deje 3) "Edlebeck" almost to Stallet in Norway 4) "John Ericson" Otto Hammarback's father, Sven, owned a silver mine in Närke. He had some 50 men employed in the operation of the mine. Sven lost the mine as he enjoyed his brandy and cognac too much. From a letter by Cerese Hedrin - 1980s
